In a recent blog post, we discussed the importance of end-of-season furnace maintenance. Whatās the flip side of making sure your furnace is in good condition before shutting it off for the season? Making sure that your cooling system is in good working order ā just in time for spring! (And particularly here in Northern Virginia, where the spring and summer months can be rather uncomfortably warm.)
What are some things you can do to make sure your A/C is ready to handle the heat? Here are some tips.
Change your filters. Replacing the filters on your air conditioning unit is as important as changing them on your furnace. A dirty filter can cause a multitude of problems in the form of inefficient HVAC performance, higher bills, and an unhealthy living environment.
Check your windows and doors. These elements of your house might not be a part of your HVAC system, but small cracks in windows or doors have a direct effect on the efficacy of your air conditioner, because they allow heat in (and cool air out).
Call in a professional. An experienced HVAC contractor will put your A/C through its paces, checking things like the motor, the condenser, the thermostat, and so on. Get your system looked at now, before the hot weather hits and you have an expensive cooling system emergency on your hands!
