How Climate Change Effects Your Energy Bill

As temperatures change with the season, you may find yourself struggling to keep your energy bill down. There are times throughout the year when the climate changes abruptly from cold to hot and hot to cold, and this can go back and forth for a while. When that happens, most people end up frequently adjusting the thermostat to keep up with the outdoors. These peak moments as the season changes will make your unit work overtime, and simply use more energy to reach your comfort levels. Most of us know that means higher energy bills, and sometimes you can almost feel your bill rising with the temperatures outside.

However, there are a few ways to combat increased energy bills when the climate changes and here are a few simple tips you can start applying right away.

Keep energy bills down with a programmable thermostat

Your thermostat settings will make a significant difference in whether or not you save money on your energy bill. And while you can’t control the temperatures outside or that slight increase in energy consumption that comes with climate change, you can keep your thermostat in check.

Choose daily settings for when you’re at home in the morning such as 72Āŗ for heat and 78Āŗ for cooling. Then have another set of temperatures you program when no one is there that is adjusted between 6 and 8 degrees, one for the evening when you return, and another for sleeping. You don’t want to completely turn your unit off when the temperatures are sporadic because it can take a lot of energy to return to the desired comfort level.

Change filters more often as the weather fluctuates

You’ve probably heard it more times than you can count how important it is that you change and clean your filters routinely, and this couldn’t be any truer than when the climate outside is changing. If you’re notorious for forgetting, go ahead and set a calendar reminder.

Get your HVAC unit inspected before the season’s peak

Before Mother Nature starts adjusting and changing seasons, make sure that you have your HVAC unit inspected and serviced. The pros will get it ready for the extra work so that you can enjoy comfortable temperatures no matter what the weather is doing outside.
