Why is My Toilet So Noisy When it is Flushed?

One Way to Prevent Dry Winter Skin: Install a Whole House Humidifier!

Toilets have their own unique sounds that let you know this piece of home plumbing is working properly, as well as when it is not. When your toilet starts making odd noises when it is flushed, it is time to pay attention. In some cases, you can quickly resolve the issue yourself, while in others, you will need to call in a professional plumber to resolve the issue. Here we look at why your toilet is so noise when it is flushed, and what you can do to repair it.

Deep water burbling sounds

When you hear resonance coming from your toilet when you flush it, this can alert you that there is something obstructing the path water flows down. You will generally find the issue will be buildup around the shut off valve at the wall, and this either needs to replace the part or you can get a regulator that will reduce the speed of the water flow. Have a plumber diagnose the issue, and then choose the resolution from there.

Frequent refill sounds

If you hear flushing sounds when you have not recently flushed the toilet or your tank is taking longer than it should to refill, you should begin by looking inside the tank to make sure that the refill tube is attached the right place. You can also replace the flapper and do a thorough cleaning of any build-up on the bottom of the tank. If that doesn’t work, then it may be time to have the flush valve drain replaced. If you notice water build up on the floor around the toilet, turn off the water valve and call in a plumber.

Hiss noises

When hearing a constant hissing going into the tank, start by checking the fill valve to see if water is continually passing through it. You can check the fill valve and flush out debris if this occurs, and if this does not correct the issue, enlist a plumber to get the issue resolved for once and for all.
